Once you have registered for our service, filled out the submission form and shipped the art to us, your order will be entered into our computer system, a barcode is generated, the art is placed in a sleeve with the barcode label affixed to it to maintain a high level of inventory control and order tracking.

Full size high resolution image of the art is captured with item number appearing on the digital image. A microscopic image down to paper fibers will then be captured of a random area of the art with a high power Polarized Light Microscope, this process identifies and characterizes artist’s materials, paint, pigments, fibers, etc. This will also serve as a fingerprint of the art for future comparison. Research, identification and authentication occur and the data input. A certificate is prepared. The art is then properly packed for shipping via insured FedEx.

It is currently the position of Illustration Art Appraisals that for the purposes of rating original illustration art, encapsulation is not a necessity. Where condition is critical in determining value, as in comic books or other mass produced products, we feel encapsulation and professional inspection for restoration is essential. However, we strongly advise those that consider purchasing a rated example of art to read and compare the notes description on the Certificate to determine if condition has changed from the time the art was originally rated.
